We get into Trinidad, and we didn't even look for a place to stay, we went straight to the dispensary and made it just in time. I'd never bought legal weed before, so for me it was an amazing experience. We went to Peaceful Herb, and when you walk in, there is a little lobby to the left, but usually they're pretty good at getting you in and out. The lady checked my ID, and then welcomed me into the back. There isn't any just "looking around" in those places. Pretty much you tell them what you want and they'll guide you to what they have available. I had heard all about the brownies, but it was $8 for one 10 mg brownie. I sort of balked at that and she could tell by the expression on my face that I wanted more. So she showed me some Love's cookies....they came in a little container with 10 10 mg for $22. I got those. I'd never had marijuana edibles before and was anxious to try them. I didn't think I needed any herb, but it was my first time there. I told the lady I had to buy at least a little cannabis, and so she asked what kind of feeling I was looking for and I told her...mellow, and couch lock would be nice. She suggested Indica or a strong indica hybrid. She gave me several jars to smell and look at, and I chose Cotton Candy Kush for my very first recreation marijuana purchase. Then she asked me if this was my first time to buy legally, and I told her it was. She said good, and went back and got me a button....that'll be cool to have.
Walking out of the store, the guy who worked at the dispensary next door saw that we were from Texas, from the plates on our car. He asked if we were looking for a smoke friendly hotel, and I said yes, then he told us which ones in town were 420 friendly. We go down to the first hotel he suggested, but it was booked up. It was the coolest looking place too. Just an old motel that's owner operated. You drive up, park, and go to the side of the entry where the owner sits and smokes weed with the guest. He looked like a biker type, and was very nice. He even had a five foot tall marijuana pant sitting right up on front of his patio area...it's one of the first things I noticed. Anyway, that one didn't work out. So we went to the other end of town and stayed at a hotel there. I can't remember the name of it, but they had a pool table, so we rented it for the night. And me and my mom got high as a kite that night. The edibles are a lot different, they were indica based cookies, and they did a very good job of calming our nerves. I had heard that the edibles could sneak up on you and trip you out, so I did as directed and only ate one. And smoked a bowl waiting for the cookies to kick in. Once they did, for me, it was like a Valium type of high...just really mellow. We both ate a few more and it was good. I wouldn't eat three at a time unless you're used to it. I hear a lot about it, and people get messed up and freaked out.
After that night, we decided we wanted to stay for a week. So I paid for a weeks hotel and we thought about staying there. The rent is cheap, but there are very few jobs. I talked to a few locals, and they were all very friendly and not discouraging of us moving there, however, they did tell me the down sides too. I mean if all you want to do is hide out financially and not spend a lot of money, and still be in a legal state, I'd have to vote for Trinidad, Colorado.
